Chikmagalur Trip

 This weekend, a good friend of mine and I planned a drive to Chikmagalur (I’m still confused to choose a spelling from the many) from Banglore. It’s around a 5 hour drive at a decent speed, which would be around 260ish kilometres. We started at saturday morning 4 and reached chikmagalur by around 11. (We did take decent breaks). We had booked our stay at zostel chikamgalur, which is kinda like a hostel, tailored for backpackers. Though it was around 12km away from chikmagalur bus stand, it stood amidst lush green woods and that was really a splendid treat to our eyes and lungs, which just escaped from the heavily polluted (both air and noise) life of Banglore.

We added stops to google map and planned to cover the major spots. Mullayanagari and Baba budangiri shouldn’t be missed at any cost, we decided. Saturday evening we left to a local lake nearby and planed to take a possibly risky route goole map showed us (yes, they sometimes put you in trouble). It was a realy tough journey and we had to abort our mission and return to stay from the mid of journey. The off-road was one of it’s kind!.
Next day morning we planned to return to banglore, since we had to return our rented bike by Sunday night. Morning we went to mullayanagari peak. It was gorgeous and strong misty winds + mild rain made the journey both beautiful and dangerous. Baba budangiri temple is constructed underground and cameras weren’t allowed. But it was a very good experience.
We started our journey back by around 12.30 noon and reached Banglore by night 8 pm, thanks to Banglore traffic.

Normal Fitness tracker vs Fitbit

 Turn your normal fites tracker into fitbit!Fitbit is the industry leader- when it comes to personal sleep tracking and health monitoring. But have you recognized how it measures the REM sleep without directly measuring the user’s brain activity? During REM, our heart rate increases. But REM is part of deep sleep, where we stop our movements. So combining both, we can indirectly know when our body enters the REM phase.Activity trackers push raw data to phone via bluetooth. It is the phone companion app that acts upon the data to draw meaningful information. We cannot use fitbit app too since the app verifies, the device id.
Is there any way to mimic the fitbit device? or else we have to either modify the fitbit app or create or own algorithm.
The wearable device can detect our hand movement patterns (motion sensor) and the heart rate and send this data over to companion app.Companion app then calculates different sleep phases.

Underwater Human Detection- Myth or a distant dream?

 {Archived from aravindalokam.com}

Water accidents are everywhere. In recent Kerala floods, we thought of developing an underwater robot which could go inside water, to places difficult for human to reach and help them in anything; from picking up things to human rescue. If we could develop some machine like this, lives would be made simpler. But then I understood the strong knots in the issue. Its not simple to develop a machine which can beat human instincts. The machine should be brainy enough to act like a human.
In our final year undergraduate project work, we had tried to adress the issue. We made a machine which can detect possible human like figures from camera, and control the actuators so as to track and lock the object while moving towards it. Difficulty is detecting the human here. Hopefully future research works will adress the problem.

Moving to Banglore

Hi, I’m moving to banglore for my first job. My graduation results will be out next week, and probably, the convocation ceremony will follow. I got Mathematics Dept. award for securing O grade in all mathematics courses in my college :). I got job as a firmware engineer in an embedded design company here. Looking forward to enjoy my time here in banglore. I’ve been to this beautiful place couple of times before, for my SSB during 2015 April, and during my college All India Trip in 2017 December. Banglore has good altitude (approx. 950m above sea level) and climate seems good.

I am thinking of my life (LOL), I just did everything with the flow. I don’t have a life decision or something. I need to think of it. I need to study more on C and brush up my math skills.

Connect Raspberry Pi to Personal Computer without knowing IP Address

{Archived from aravindalokam.com}

Connecting Raspberry Pi to a desktop/laptop for programming purpose initially requires you to connect the Pi to a network and then a monitor to see the IP address assigned to your Pi. You can then connect to Pi easily by entering this IP adress, into Putty or a VNC viewer.

Wait. What if you don’t have a monitor and no access to a router?

All you, have is just the Pi, it’s power supply , a Laptop and an ethernet cable. (Or you can even use lap’s hotspot if you have it).
Install Apple’s Bonjour service from here:

https://support.apple.com/kb/DL999?locale=en_US

Raspberry Pi’s default identification name is “raspberrypi.local”. After installing the bonjour service, reboot the laptop and Enter the identification name I said without quotes in to search field in the putty or VNC viewer.

Voila! You can connect to the Pi without knowing it’s IP adress!
You may follow this guide for more information and reference:
https://www.howtogeek.com/167190/how-and-why-to-assign-the-.local-domain-to-your-raspberry-pi/
I used to get route to host not found error constantly while trying to connect to pi, but following this method helped me fix it.

Challenging Google’s search indexing bots using SEO

 Originally authored on March 25 2019, archived from aravindalokam.com

I am the usual unlucky google search guy. I rely on almost everything relating from my work to daily chores on google search, and most of my valuable time is spent on simply searching on google to find my stuff. At times, I will not get any answer on the first page, and there have been instances of me reading results and hunting for my answers up to 5th or 6th page.

Reason?

Google has been deliberate on web developers that it rely on website’s meta data for it’s crawling. So, developers optimize their meta tags to include stuffs relating to their content. I feel that sometimes, it could be misused by people putting all sorts of possible keywords in their meta tag. This would bias the search indexing. Also good websites with content but poor SEO often fail to appear in search results, because of bad SEO. So, our required content may be there somewhere in the web but is not benefiting us.

Who to blame? Not sure. Perhaps, in near future AI can understand this biasing and would give us better results.

NB: This is what I felt, because nowadays it has been very difficult to search and find a way. I feel the search results are too many and cluttered.

Suggestions are always welcome. :)

Whom should we listen to? - heart or head

This is a common question we all come across: there is often a deep clash between the thoughts from the head and the feelings from the heart...
